Dundurn Press is looking for a creative, highly organized, and enthusiastic book lover to join our sales and marketing team!

Reporting to the Director of Sales and Marketing, the Publicist will be responsible for planning and generating media hits to build buzz for upcoming books and shepherding authors through the publicity process.


  • Maintain author communications with frontlist and backlist authors and ensure good working relationships.
  • Plan and execute seasonal publicity outreach for assigned titles and identify key opportunities for media, festivals/events, special/targeted outreach (for US and Canadian market).
  • Create high quality press releases and focused media mailing lists, execute publicity campaigns, and oversee junior support staff when necessary.
  • Handle seasonal trade and review journal submissions.
  • Contribute content to marketing department for trade shows and conferences; organize staffing and author signing schedules.
  • Escort and assist authors with media appearances when necessary.
  • Contribute and help coordinate content for company social media schedule and author blog posts.
  • Act as a representative of the company at author events, as well as industry functions as needed.

This role is right for you if you are a creative book lover and a great team player with a demonstrated talent for writing compelling pitches and generating media hits. You should also be able to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously. You should be able to work occasional evenings and weekends. Some travel may be required in this role. Prior experience with book publicity is considered an asset.

Compensation: Annual salary of $35,000–$45,000 (commensurate with experience), enrollment in our group benefits program (includes extended health and dental), and opportunities for professional development.

Qualification Criteria:

  • Post-secondary education
  • Publishing diploma or equivalent publishing experience an asset
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, email marketing, Facebook, Twitter, RSS and other web applications an asset
  • Strong project management and communication skills
  • Management experience an asset
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana an asset
  • Ability to cold call contacts
  • Drivers License required
